Straus “postive and optimistic” about — AMNESTY?

It has become crystal clear why attempts to battle illegal immigration have consistently failed during the Joe Straus era. In a San Antonio Express News candidate interview with Matt Beebe, he recently explained his perspective that State level attempts to address illegal immigration problems are not “serious and effective”. Yet he’s “positive and optimistic” and has “reason to hope that Speaker Boehner, and Paul Ryan, and their leadership team will make serious progress on immigration reform.” (For those of you following along at home, this is the plan that we now understand to be essentially AMNESTY!!)

Talk about out of step with Texas Republicans! Texans – by a wide majority – want the State to step up and enact effective deterrent programs like eVerify, increase penalties for employers knowingly exploiting the problem, end sanctuary cities and the game of catch and release with violent criminals, and finally put a stop to magnets like in-state tuition discounts for illegal immigrants attending Texas colleges and universities.

The amnesty discussions taking place in Washington DC, are more likely to cause Texas Republicans to need a dose of Pepto Bismol, than they are to inspire us to be “positive and optimistic.” Joe Straus is out of step with District 121 Republicans who overwhelmingly stand against amnesty and pathways to citizenship as “solutions” to the illegal immigration problem.

I will work tirelessly for solutions to our illegal immigration crisis. Solutions that start with the recognition that the State DOES indeed have a vested interest in the issue, and CAN indeed be effective in ending many of the magnets that draw people here. We MUST insist upon a basic respect for law and order as part of any solution.
